When it comes to home decor many people are confused to what works so they do not experiment at all. The answer to what works is relatively easy. If you like it and it gives you the look you want then you have achieved what you set out for even if it is not in a designer book. The first step is to decide how you want to use the room. Then go from there. Make everything you do for the room towards it’s purpose. For instance you would not use a lot of glass in a game room. Figure out what you want your color scheme to be. What are the colors you enjoy being around and what colors are conducive to the purpose of the room. A room that is going to be active will be better with more brighter active colors. Rooms to relax in are better achieved through neutral or darker colors. When it comes time for window treatments such as curtains or valances decide if you want to have the window heavy to include the curtains or lighter with perhaps just a window valance. After visiting a home show in our local area we found many different ideas that we want to apply to our home to give it a more updated look. The first room we are redoing is our kitchen. Then when we move onto the bedroom there are simple changes there to mix things up a little as well. We all know that lavenders and purples are conducive to relaxation so why not go with a purple queen comforter set to set the mood and give the room that elegant feel that we like in our places to relax. These are some of the techniques designers use to give rooms that something extra that not only serves a purpose but it also enhances the room at the same time. Using space wisely is vital no matter if you have too much space or not enough. When you get the general idea on what you want your end room to look like it is simple to get there just one step at a time. If you do not have a clear plan it can mean just do small things to begin with that you really like and work outward until you complete the room . Remember you want your room to reflect you and your family as well as be conducive to your lifestyle then just let your creativity guide you.
It is that time of year again when people get the inspiration to take on remodeling projects. That is what happened to our neighbors. We remodeled our kitchen last year and they loved it. It is so exciting to watch the summer months come along. For so long now we have watched our outdoor patio furniture sit under the covers from the windows. We make a big deal out of the uncovering of the furniture and pool. We invite friends over and we grill out. The patio always looks so inviting with the colors of the patio furniture guiding the way for the flowers to bloom framing the area. We have carefully placed plants around the backyard so that it is an inviting space. The deck and the patio has furniture that is comfortably placed for guests to enjoy conversation as well as for quiet time with a good book. When it comes to the spring, summer and fall months we are outside most of the time. It is so nice to open up the house and let the outside in. It is refreshing and we look forward to it every year. This past winter we bought a fireplace for outside so we enjoyed some of our outdoor living space throughout the winter months. This was definitely a bonus for us. Although we loved the entire house when we bought it the back yard with all of the space was the final thing that made us decide we had to have this house. We have spent a lot of time turning the area into the space that we wanted. It has truly exceeded our expectations. Our family thinks so too because this is where we have all of our gatherings. The furniture we choose for the space we have had to compliment the area so we spent a time just living in the space and deciding what pieces we needed. We bought them as we saw we needed them until we had the setup we wanted. Our deck was so much easier because we bought a set for it. You can get all types of patio furniture from wicker to metal and of course Teak. That means there are many choices in style to choose from. This is perfect because everyone has different sized spaces and different shaped spaces outdoors. Once you find the right furniture for outdoors whether it be a simple table and chair or a lounger or maybe a grouping of many pieces it changes your entire area to a part of your home only in the great outdoors!
After a trip to a home show that was being hosted in our area we knew there were changes that we needed to make in our kitchen. In fact we went on the home tour just for ideas. We have some ideas but wanted to be certain they would look good implemented. One change we need to make is our sink. It is an older sink and has begun showing it’s age.
